UserClient

This tutorial introduces the main UserClient functions.

Components are a central concept to versiondog . These are directories with versiondog -specific properties in which project data is stored. A description of how components are administrated in the UserClient is to be found here.

The UserClient enables you to make changes to a project in three simple steps:

If you want for the project to be processed by an external supplier, who cannot access your system, the functions Supplier Check-Out and SmartImport for supplier projects are available for the Check-Out and the Check-In after their editing.

In UserClient, you can also compare component versions with each other as well as execute jobs and view job results. Jobs are created and configured in the AdminClient.

Tags enable the user to add details to existing versions.

Quicksave allows you to temporarily save copies of your work in progress on the server without creating a new version.

Depending on the configuration, you have the possibility to delete items on the server and manually synchronize the data in the UserClient with those on the server.

Clients will close once two hours have passed without user activity. This is the default setting. In order to continue using the clients, the user will have to log in again. If the client application has been open for over 48 hours, the user will also have to log in again (this also occurs by default and will happen regardless of whether user activity took place during this time period or not).

It is possible to configure these values to suit your individual needs. This is done with an entry in the server.ini file.

If the VDogMasterService is restarted, during the time period in which a client application is open, the user will have to log in again. This is because login information is lost when the service is restarted.
