First call – important information on server configuration

For server configuration, you may require some information from your system administrator. We recommend that you read this section carefully before starting the configuration, so that you can clarify all questions in advance.

  1. When you open the UserClient for the first time, the dialog section versiondog client login will be displayed
  2. In the Server field, you will see either the name or IP address of the versiondog server. Click on the selection field on the right and select Server settings if you want to change the server configuration

  4. Click on Add
  5. Enter a name for this server configuration in the Configuration name field.
Your system administrator can tell you whether to use a specific name. If this is not the case, you can select a configuration name of your choice
  6. In the Server address field, you will see either the name or IP address of the versiondog server.
  7. Check the checkbox if you want to use the option Single Sign-On.
  8. If necessary, change the Port numbers if the default port numbers in your network are occupied.
Your system administrator can tell you whether this is necessary.
  9. The port for the database server cannot be entered manually. It is preset by versiondog and is only displayed when you test the connection or when you connect to the server for the first time. If necessary, you can change it on the server

  10. Click on Test connection, to test the connection to the server.
  11. All ports of the versiondog server need to have a green checkmark. If a red checkmark is displayed, you have to change the port.

The port for the database server is detected by the versiondog server and displayed.

  12. Click on Save.
  13. Click on Close.
  14. Now the versiondog splash screen will now be displayed with the newly configured server selected.
  15. Enter a valid Username, Password and, if necessary, a Domain.
These settings need to be configured by the user during the installation of the server.
    Username: versiondog
    Password: ********
  16. You can display the password when entering it.

  17. Click on Login.
  18. If you are working with a parallel server system, a dialog box will appear asking you for the name of the parallel server system.
Enter a name in Name of server group and then click OK
Your system administrator can tell you if you need to use a certain name If this is not the case, you can select a parallel server name of your choice.
  19. The server configuration is now complete and the UserClient will open.

When trying to connect to the server from a client, why does the attempt fail with the error message: "The authenticity of host xxx cannot be established. The fingerprint of the certificate is "00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00". Please contact support your system administrator."?

There are two possibilities:

  • The private key of the server archive has been deleted or changed.
This may be because the server archive was restored from a backup or because the path to a new server archive was already used for another server archive.

  • The connection between client and server may be tampered with.
If the private key of the server archive has not been deleted or changed, this error can also be triggered by SSL connections being checked by a proxy or firewall using man-in-the-middle techniques Or it could be that a man-in-the-middle attack is actually occurring!

Necessary action

Carefully check the network connection between the affected clients and the server, especially for evidence of attack or tampering.

I have installed versiondog , but when I try to start the applications I get the following error: "Failed to get proc address for GetLogicalProcessorInformation KERNEL32.dll". How can I solve this problem?

If you have an older version than versiondog 4.0 installed, upgrade your operating system to Windows XP SP3.

You will not be able to use versiondog 4.0 or newer with Windows XP as this operating system is no longer supported.
